This was our first experience attending the Ohio Cup... This is a fantastic privledge to be hosting such an event. With that said, it was disappointing to see Hilliard was the only participant that did not have a parent tent. As the home host of all games, I would like to see this change in the future. I'd like to suggest a committe be created made up of parent volunteers to help organize this a little better. This is a huge event and understanding everyone is a volunteer and time is stretched for all. Many hands make lighter work and more community involvement. There are TONS of parents tht are willing to help, I don't see the league taking them up on their offers. Please for the goodness of the program, let more people get involved and help Hilliard be the best youth organization I can be!

Thank you for your comment. HYLA's Ohio Cup teams in the past have had their own areas with tents and certainly such would have been welcome this year. However the HYLA board does not involve itself in the activities of the Ohio Cup teams per se, we view that as the role of the coaches and parents. This is the approach the other participant teams take. Any parent wishing to help with the Ohio Cup team certainly can contact the coaches, and if any board member were contacted we would have so advised. Anyone wanting to form a committee likely would have had had the support of our coaches.
Board Members by necessity spend time running the tournament itself. You are correct, it is a huge effort, generally requiring 12-16 hour days for us during the event and the days preceding.
As for HYLA not taking parents up on requests to help, if there are tons of parents willing to help such initiatives are welcome but were not communicated to us. Every person known to us that wished to volunteer for the Ohio Cup was put in touch with the tournament's volunteer coordinator. Understandably, many parents of players on the Ohio Cup teams are hesitant to volunteer because their son or daughter has games they want to watch. Otherwise we did have help with parents being field captains, helping with programs, concessions and other roles.
There is always a headline on the main page of the HYLA website asking for help and anyone with interest simply needs to fill out and submit the online form. Prior to the Ohio Cup, we post a similar form specifically for the tournament. We will respond to any submissions via the website or via email. Anyone who wants to help HYLA can fill out the online form right now, it is the second headline on our home page. We welcome anyone who truly has the time to invest to help our program and improve youth lacrosse in Hilliard. We would not knowingly turn anyone away that was serious about investing the time commitment necessary, instead we would welcome it. Thank you.
